One HIIT training to free my mind ✍️

Before last week, I felt I was stuck in a rut. This for already a few weeks.

I needed to train for the start of my marathon plan, but I didn't feel like it.
I tried to do all the low intensity runs I planned, and I completed almost all. Yet, I didn't feel the satisfaction afterwards, nor the drive to go out the next day(s).

In the same way, I felt like that regarding my work. I did what I had to to do, but didn't feel on top of things.

But then it all changed.

Instead of doing another low intensity run, I decided to do one suggested by my running app, Stryd, which I always use when I'm serious about my training.

It suggested to do high intensity intervals. 3 minutes at threshold pace, followed by light recovery.
4 times.

I know many people hate intervals, but I somehow look forward to them. I feel I do get better because of them (alongside all other runs).

I'm not in good shape yet, so I was doubting, but in the end, did it anyway.

And what a difference it has made.

After the second or third interval, my mind all of a sudden became clear. It felt good, and I started thinking about everything I wanted and should be doing.

Ever since that moment last week, I have been committed and focused.

I'm looking forward to all my runs, performing a warm-up ritual before each one. I brought 2 pair of running shoes, just to show how dedicated I am.

My task list gets cleared every day.

I've been on top of things at work, following up, being proactive. I did it all. And it felt good.

I joined Blaugust and look forward to each day to write something new.

Who knew, that such a short but exhausting exercise could provide the change I needed.
Somehow, that spike of dopamine released during the workout was enough to become unstuck and on top of things.

I know it's not easy to do something if you don't feel like it, or have the energy for it. But I'll keep that in mind for the next time I'm feeling low, and although I may not want to, going out and pushing might be just what my body and mind needs.
