Weekly rewind - W16 ⏪
⏪ Week in rewind
🎾 Returning from Malta, it was business as usual for Marge and me, while the boys had another week of Easter holidays. They all went to the grandparents, allowing us some time to recover and having our first game of padel together.
🏃 I had some tests planned for checking my fitness and whether my training program would need to be changed. Out of the 2 tests, I was only able to finish one, as before the second test, I strained my quadriceps while doing a run with some sprints with my brother-in-law. As a result, I missed most of my runs last week, making me doubtful about my race happening in 4 weeks. I did do a 2km run yesterday and all felt ok, so I'm likely to restart my training this week, however, I'm not happy about another lost week.
🦾 While being sidelined from running, I focused on strength training. As I started doing it daily, I wanted to keep a log of everything, so I went on a hunt for a quick and easy app for it. In the end, I settled for Hevy, which is free and easy to use.
🤖 I finally found a good app for using LLMs offline. Over time, I've been testing so many, but none provided me with the output or experience I was looking for (some even provided gibberish as output). PocketPal is an easy and free app. You can load any model (given your phone can run it) and even create pals as custom assistants.
🛡️ I got emails from Facebook & Instagram regarding the use of my images for AI training, where I chose to opt out. It also made me reflect whether I still needed to keep these accounts and content alive, seeing the emotional Ted talk from Carole Cadwalladr on the digital coup that is happening now. In the end I decided I no longer needed them and started to take action to clean everything.
🧳 During Easter weekend, we went away with the whole family, providing a nice time together. We did some walking, children activities, played football and other games together, watched cycling,... As I was suffering from my strained quadriceps, I had some more me time to relax and read, which I enjoyed.
🎮 Thanks to Hiro, I saw that a new UI is available for my retro handheld, expanding its features. With PakUI I'll be able to turn on Wifi and run other ports which hopefully is enough to get Stardew Valley working.

📚 Reading
📗 Imperium by Robert Harris. I was doubtful to start as I was reading something else, but now that I started, I can't put it down.
🎧 World without End by Ken Follett
📱 Apps in focus
PocketPal AI. Free app to run LLMs locally. Clean UI, easy to use and offers pals & role-play to tweak your AI usage.
Hevy / Strong / Caliber. All good apps for doing strength training and keeping a log. Caliber offers the best guidance with videos, while Hevy was the easiest to quickly log a session.
🎮 Played
- Super Mario World. With my youngest son, who has difficulty beating the levels, so he always asks me for help. The nice thing about playing it on my TrimUI Brick is that I can save our progress at any given moment without the need to replay the whole level.
