Weekly rewind - W33 ⏪
⏪ Week in rewind
🌲 We've been off for the week to La Roche, in the Ardennes. While it's part of the French side of Belgium, the main language we heard was Dutch. It seems that a lot of people from Flanders (like us) and people from the Netherlands had the idea to come here. But that didn't ruin the experience. La Roche and its surrounding areas are beautiful. We enjoyed some walks in the forest, cooled down in the river and even went kayaking. This area is also where the WW2 Battle of the Bulge took place, so plenty of museums were available. The rest of the family and I have a genuine interest in WW2, so we visited many. The barracks where the famous word NUTS! was sent from. The famous foxholes, dug and used by Easy Company (as seen in Band of Brothers. And many others.
⚔️ Yesterday, we went to a medieval re-enactment. The boys initially didn't want to go, but once they saw the cannons, sword fighting and horse riding skill games, they were sold. They also constructed a pop-up village complete with tents, food, and antique making, giving a glimpse of what life in those days would have been like.
🏃➡️ This week is the start of my official training towards the Marathon of Valencia on Dec 7th. I've been ramping up on volume in the last 2 weeks, and while I was doubtful with my left knee acting up, it all went fine. Even with the hills in the Ardennes. I wasn't able to complete my long run yesterday, as I was feeling a bit ill, like today, so with some rest, I hope I can start quickly.
✍️ I've had a consistent week of writing for Blaugust. At first, I was doubtful and thought I jumped into it impulsively as we were off for the week with many busy days. But with dedication and writing on my phone when I could, I managed to write for 12 days consecutively now. While it did add pressure, that great feeling when hitting the publish button remained.
