Weekly rewind - W52 ⏪
A typical foggy day in Belgium, shot from the MAS museum in Antwerp.
Week in rewind
As expected, I’ve not been close to my computer for a whole week. Instead, I’ve been spending a lot of time with the family. Normally, I would find this time a bit overwhelming as our boys are quite active (ASS and ADHD) and need a lot of coaching and refereeing, however, until now, I’ve truly enjoyed our time together. Maybe because they are getting older, but I’m not feeling as stressed as the past holidays.
It could be I’m still in my X100VI honeymoon phase, but I’m taking it wherever I go, enjoying every shot I take. And I’ve taken a lot already. More than 500 in only one week. It’s a lot of experimentation, but I feel there is so much more energy and emotion with shots taken this way. Much more than getting photos through my phone looking a bit overprocessed.
It’s also effortless to export photos to my phone for sharing, while requiring very few editing with its built-in recipes. So my overall photography workflow is much easier and faster, keeping my list of photos to process at a minimum.
For anyone with an interest in photography, I can recommend getting any Fujifilm camera for a similar workflow and experience. It’s not the best weather here in Belgium. Today again is a cloudy/foggy day, just like about any other day this Christmas holiday. We’ve only had one day of sunshine, and I’m happy we took the opportunity that day to go out for a walk to enjoy the few hours of sun.
Last Friday, I went to a live performance with my son and his nephew. It was the first time for him in a big event arena watching a science-based show. He didn’t say too much about it, but I could see the interest and enjoyment on his face.
Last week I said I restarted with Drafts, and I’ve extended its usage more and more. For anything text, I start in Drafts and push it where needed. Adding to our shopping list, a reminder, calendar event, starting a chat/search with AI (ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Claude), the start of a draft for this blog, a journal entry or even publishing to Bluesky/Mastodon, … It all goes through Drafts first. In case you’re curious about what you can do with Drafts, you can find plenty of actions through its directory.
I wrote about the default apps I’m using for just about anything and noticed a few new additions to my 2024 habits. Like writing for this blog, providing a positive boost of dopamine with each time I’ve hit the publish button, or drawing for creativity and calming my mind.
I started running again, since the end of October. After weeks of sickness and not having the mental or physical energy, I’m happy to have done a run without any issues.
Watched
Four good days (★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆): Based on a true story of a daughter coping with a drug addiction trying to stop and her mom helping her to stay clean. Good performance from Mila Kunis and Glen Close, but overall lacking a bit of depth.
The six triple eight (★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆): The story of the only all black female squadron sent overseas during WW2, trying to cope with the millions of letters from soldiers and the home front which they are tasked to deliver in only 6 months time. On top, they need to withstand racism from their white fellow soldiers and staff.
We watched the first episode of the new season of Squid game.

I’m testing Letterboxd to keep track of the movies I watched and how I rate them. I’m already using Trakt through Ripple to keep track of movies and tv shows, so will need to find which one I like most.
Much of my childhood and young adulthood I watched The Simpsons, and as an idea for a Christmas card I thought of Simpsonizing our family. I’ve not started with it yet, but I did find Yellow avatar to create your own Simpson characters. It’s free on iOS with an unlock of all customisations for $1.99.
